The original Alien and original Predator films may be similar in the sense that a being from another planet slowly kills off a full cast of characters, but that’s pretty much where the similarities ended. The dark, slow, brooding pace of Alien stands in stark contrast to the hyped action of Predator. However, over the years, the two franchises have moved in very similar directions and even combined on occasion! And why not? They feature two of the most powerful beings in cinematic history. The man who plays Hopkins, Shane Black, is actually a screenwriter by trade. He had previously written Lethal Weapon! Having no real experience with acting, he was covertly hired as Hopkins so that could he could be available to write on-the-fly alterations to the script if needed. The guy has since become a rather successful director, with Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys and the new Predator film being credited to his name.
