The coastal city of Aberdeen has a surprisingly lively ghost hunting scene, and nowhere more so than the creepy old Tolbooth. As a prison, it dates way back to 1616 and 1629 and was used to house Jacobites after the Battle of Culloden. These guys weren’t happy about their incarceration, and it’s said that they still rattle around in chains in the dark. Some people have even felt a tightening around the neck when they are visiting. It operates as a museum, so you can visit if you dare.
