How old would you imagine the word “swag” is? The word’s meaning has largely stayed the same over the years and many would claim it’s a rather recent phenomenon. However, John Fletcher and Philip Massinger used it in a similar way in 1640: "Hansom swag fellowes and fitt for fowle play."
