The song “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” has an interesting back-story to it. The song’s writer, James Gillespie, was out of work, broke and coping with family tragedy when he was asked to pen a Christmas tune. He was originally too overcome with grief to commit, but found inspiration in his own family Christmas memories to write the hit.
